Poverty in China

What works against poverty?

What explains the success and failure of local attempts to reduce poverty? China's thousands of local governments create a laboratory for us to understand what works and what doesn't in the war against poverty. This line of work began with the Guizhou fieldwork behind Small Works, and has extended into questions about microcredit, tourism, and how broader market trends interact with the lives of poor families.
